The Indigenous Peoples of Peninsular Malaysia (Orang Asli) are categorized into three main groups: the Negrito, the Senoi, and the Proto-Malay, comprising a total of 18 ethnic subgroups. As of 2020, their population is estimated to be around 210,000.

Among them, the Mah Meri people, part of the Senoi group, primarily reside along the coastal areas of Selangor, especially on Carey Island (Pulau Carey). They are renowned for their exquisite wood carvings, with their "Moyang" (ancestral spirit) sculptures being the most iconic.
