11. Building a 64 drawer apothecary style small parts storage cabinet

Have wanted to build a storage chest for my screws and small parts for quite a while. Wasn’t it a long job!!!. Having to do anything 64 times takes a lot of time.

Anyway, another build from the big stack of recycled / reclaimed maple flooring I bought cheap. Back panel came from a piece of plywood that was part of the bandsaw packing case and had been in the rack for 3+ years. I was going to make the draws totally from maple but opted to use a sheet of 8mm plywood I had in the rack and save the maple for other projects. Drawer fronts are maple flooring with walnut pull-outs.

With regards to the staining. The maple flooring does have a lot of defects and deep scratches. The maple never was furniture grade to start with, so I use a technique I like for deliberately making it look like it has been kicking around the workshop for years. Heating the wax and slapping it on thick and leaving it to dry leaves it patchy. Next day I use the heat gun to heat the wax and wipe of the residue. I love the final look (which is all that matters I guess).
