In this video, join me as I visit one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World – Victoria Falls – during my stay at the stunning Royal Livingstone by Anantara. The hotel offers guests exclusive, unlimited access to the falls, and all it takes is showing your room key! 🌿
I decided to walk to the falls early in the morning, around 7:00 am, for a peaceful and serene experience. The morning mist, the quiet atmosphere, and the breathtaking views were absolutely magical. The falls are generally less crowded at this time, and I had the whole place to myself for the most part – a true privilege! 🌊✨
As I explored the falls, I couldn’t help but marvel at their sheer beauty, even though the flow was a bit lower than usual. Apparently, there’s been a drought, and the falls haven't been this low in years. The last significant rains were in February, and by August, the falls were showing the effects of the dry season. While they weren't as powerful as usual, they were still awe-inspiring, with the mist rising up to the skies.
At the entrance to the falls, you’ll find a statue of Dr. David Livingstone, the legendary Scottish explorer and missionary. Livingstone was the first European to "discover" the falls in 1855, and his work helped bring Victoria Falls to global attention. The falls were named in honor of Queen Victoria, but Livingstone’s legacy lives on through his exploration and contributions to the knowledge of Africa’s landscapes.
Victoria Falls, or Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning “The Smoke That Thunders,” is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site but also one of the most iconic natural landmarks in the world. Standing before it, even in a time of drought, I couldn’t help but feel humbled by its majesty and history. 🌍
