/ sxswlawnparty Cole Furlow turned Dead Gaze's lo-fi psych into a hi-fi rock event, with loud guitars and monster hooks.
Perhaps one of Mississippi's best kept secrets (until now), Cole Furlow's home recordings as Dead Gaze are a beguiling swirl of murky guitars, thrift-store electronics and ear-worm melodies. Get Cole and his band on the live stage, though, and any pretext of lo-fi is thrown out the window. Kicking off day two of the Lawn Party, Dead Gaze sounded huge, with a loud wall of guitars and infectious sing-a-long choruses. They certainly made some new fans too; after their set there was pretty nice line at the merch table, the band's 7"s selling faster than Girl Scout cookies at a PTA meeting. Cole has promised to send a stack of Dead Gaze's limited-pressed singles to Other Music for us to put on our record racks, but we want to know, when's the full-length, guys?
