In this video we see how you can take a standard switch, or a charge jack switch, and modify it for use as a Smart Switch with a Spektrum PowerSafe Receiver. This is done by reversing the positions of the red and orange wires in the connector housings, and placing a bind plug into the female connector coming from the switch. The male connector from the switch is then inserted into the switch port of the Spektrum PowerSafe receiver.
This can come in handy if you are installing a PowerSafe receiver into an airplane that has already had a standard switch or charge jack switch installed. You can use the same switch as a Smart Switch with these modifications. You might also decide that you'd like a heavier duty, more robust switch in your airplane instead of the small Smart Switch that comes with your receiver. This can be true in some airplanes where heavy vibration is present.
Please make sure that if you decide to use this switch as a regular switch in the future, you reverse these modifications to prevent damage to your receiver or battery.
