How do you get the benefits of an electric keyboard but the stage ascetics of a real piano? You build a shell that looks like a piano but has an electric keyboard inside. This is a project we took on several months ago, and it’s surprising easier than it looks. The entire project cost around $200 in materials and took a few days to build and stain it. Because it’s made from pine, it’s very light and easy to move around. Remember, it doesn’t have to look great up close. It just needs to look good from 20-30 feet away. If you have any questions on dimensions or any of the materials used, leave them in the comments below.
What this video covers:
1. A 360 tour of our piano shell
2. What kind of wood we used to build our fake piano
3. How we made a realistic piano soundboard
4. What kind of stain color to choose for the fake piano
5. Why we choose to build a piano shell from scratch instead of gutting a real piano
