PAINTING VIDEO DESCRIPTION – This canvas painting tutorial will take you through easy step-by-step instructions on how to draw and paint this fun and exciting automotive landscape painting of "Autumn Train” with acrylic paint. It wasn’t until I was thirty-three years of age when I took my first train ride. I went backpacking in Europe with my husband who coordinated this amazing 14-day trip through Spain, France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. After spending a few days in Madrid eating tapas, people watching in Plaza Mayor, and seeing a Flamenco Dance, we hopped on a train around 9:00 pm, ate some jamon, drank Sangria, played cards, then passed out and woke up around 7:00 am in Paris. It was awesome and I was hooked on train rides ever since, and it’s truly one of the things I look forward to the most when I travel. Although certain restrictions have prevented me from vacationing overseas these past few years, I did take a different sort of train ride last Autumn with my dad in Adams, Massachusetts—the birthplace of Susan B. Anthony. Although it’s not like train ride through the Swiss Alps, it’s a quaint hour-long scenic ride through the Northern Berkshires, perfect for nature-lovers who want to see fall foliage at its best. And, just so you know, peak foliage season in New England is around the 1st and 2nd week in October. Fall is my favorite season—the colors, the crisp weather, Halloween, train rides, exploring local farms, and the fall festivals selling maple candy, fudge, donuts, and all other seasonal apple and pumpkin baked goods. So, in the spirit of autumn, join me and paint with acrylics this exciting realistic painting of a train passing through a fall forest! You’ll learn is how to paint a background using soft neutral colors that you’ll use to paint the whole canvas creating an evening autumn feel to the painting. The perfect backdrop for your cute caboose. After learning how to draw a train and train tracks using a dot-to-dot method, you’ll apply a simple base coat to work off of. Next, you’ll paint highlights and shadows on your steam powered locomotive and tracks for added depth and dimension, giving them a 3-D appearance like a photograph. Then, using a scrubbing or scumbling technique, you’ll learn to paint steam coming out of the train. Using an easy one brushstroke technique, you’ll paint tree trunks and branches, followed by using a dotting or stippling method to paint colorful autumn leaves. You’ll finish your classic transportation masterpiece with beams of light shining from the bright head light that illuminates the scenery. Using only 3 brushes and 7 colors you’ll create the best canvas painting in the world! Canvas: 16x20 stretched primed canvas
Brushes: 3/4 inch flat bristle (large), #8 round (medium), #3 round synthetic (small)
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, mars black, fire red, deep yellow, burnt sienna (rust), burnt umber (brown) and cobalt blue
Other: Chalk, palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. 3/4 inch bristle brush – Paint base coat for canvas with black and white
2. 3/4 inch bristle brush – Paint atmospheric dimension with grey (made in step 1), white, black, blue, and brown
3. Chalk – Draw outline for train and train tracks
4. #8 round and #3 round brushes – Paint base coat for train and train tracks with black
5. #3 round brush – Finish train with brown and white
6. #8 round brush – Paint base coat for trees and branches with black, white, brown and gray
7. 3/4 inch bristle brush – Paint leaves and gravel with brown, black, white, rust, yellow, gray and red
8. #8 round brush – Finish trees, branches and tracks with white, rust, black, yellow and brown
9. #3 round and #8 round brushes – Paint headlight on train with brown and white
10. #3 round brush – Sign with brown and white
