Artistic Director Matthew Dirst introduces Bach’s Divine Comedy, the season opener that showcases the wit, drama, and spiritual depth of J.S. Bach. This rich program features:
🎭 The Dispute Between Phoebus & Pan — a tongue-in-cheek secular cantata drawn from Ovid’s mythology, where Apollo and Pan face off in a humorous musical duel.
🎼 Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major — opening the concert with its regal rhythms and the beloved Air, this work brims with energy and elegance.
🙏 Motet: Fürchte dich nicht (Fear Not) — a serene and deeply moving double-chorus motet that reflects Bach’s mastery of sacred choral writing.
These three works together highlight Bach’s extraordinary ability to traverse the sacred and the secular, the grand and the intimate.
📅 Bach’s Divine Comedy opens the season on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Zilkha Hall, The Hobby Center.
