I made up a small crucible with a hole in the bottom and also made a crude blade shaped mold from a hard firebrick. The idea was to get liquid steel from the welding thermite to flow onto the firebrick mold shape. This did not work perfectly as one side of the guard did not form. I will try this again using a proper cope and drag sand mold. A good mold should provide a far better result.
