We set out for Day 2 in Singapore with only a rough idea of what we were going to do - head to the MerLion and check it out and then see what happened after that.
So on the way to the MRT to catch a train, we first grabbed breakfast at the Fortune Centre at Bencoolen. We have Kaya toast, eggs and Matcha Latte. Kaya toast is now one of our all-time favourite things.
We caught the train to the Raffles Place station and popped up right alongside the river with a short walk along the promenade past the Fullerton Hotel (which is a pretty impressive building), zig-zagged over a couple of bridges and under another before arriving at the MerLion. We were delighted to find that there was also a baby MerLion statue under the shade of trees which was cool as well. The MerLion is super popular, and many people were vying for spots to get photos.
After that, we walked to the Capita Spring building. The plan was to get some free tickets up to the viewing deck on the 51st floor but unfortunately, they were all booked out for 2 weeks. However, a good workaround is that if you pay for a couple of drinks, you can go up anyway. But we had to wait a while for a spot to be available. While we were waiting we went next door to the Market Street Hawker Centre for lunch. The Market Street Hawker Centre has 2 levels and both were pretty packed out at lunchtime. We ordered from one of the stalls called Tong Fong Fatt which is famous for its Chicken Rice.
Back at the Capita Spring building we were wowed by the views from the 51st floor and were both impressed and worried at the same time by the barely waist-high barriers separating us from the edge. You can look down to see you are directly over the street and buildings below. It's not recommended if you have a fear of heights but I totally recommend it otherwise. We had our drinks inside in the KAARLA OUMI bar which was a welcome respite from the humidity.
Then we caught the elevator down to the 20th floor and walked winding our way down to the 17th floor through lush gardens and outdoor spaces with amazing views. We absolutely loved the Capita Spring building experience.
After that, we were back on the MRT to Harbourfront to watch the Light show.
Then we went into the Marina Bay Apple Store which seemed to float over the water. We were amazed to find an escalator that took you down through the store into a basement level that links to the Marina Bay shopping Centre.
Finally, we walked along the Harbourfront walkways past the Louis Vuitton building which is also over the water, past the Lotus (Art Science Museum) until we reached the Helix bridge. We walked to the middle to get a good view back at the Marina Bay Sands and the City. Finally, we walked through the Marina Bay shopping centre which is mesmerising, before catching the MRT back to our hotel. It was a very full and rewarding day.
