This is a brief account of the slave trade which operated from Bristol, some seven hundred years before England became involved in the trans-Atlantic trade in black African slaves. A century before the Norman Conquest in 1066, 10% of the population in England were slaves and they were exported from Bristol to, among other places, Africa.
