Painted Willow Art Owl Paint Along - June 2023

Learn to paint a whimsical watercolor owl using, whether you're a beginner artist or if you've been painting for a while.

We will use light washes of color to obtain a pastel look. We'll add doodle embellishments and talk about how to cover spots where you've gone out of the lines.

✏️ Supplies Needed ✏️
I have only provided specific links for the things that can't be found at any art/craft supply store, and I do not get commission on anything I recommend - these are just the supplies I love.

Paper: Any 140 lb. watercolor paper will work, but I usually use Arches. This can be spendy, so Strathmore 400 is a more affordable option but still good paper. At the end of the day, use what you have - just try to make sure it's 140 lbs. or more. That helps with warping.

Pens: If you are drawing on top, pretty much any pen will work. If you are drawing first, you want a waterproof pen. I love the Uni-ball Eye Micro and Uni-ball Deluxe - both are ballpoint, which stand up to the texture on watercolor paper very well. I used both in this video.

Watercolor: I mostly use either Daniel Smith brand or handmade watercolors, but in these videos I generally use the two below - they are good beginner sets and aren't terribly expensive

Tape: I am currently loving Scotch Wall Safe Tape, but washi tape is a good alternative. If you use masking tape or painters tape, make sure you de-tack them a bit because they can rip the paper more.

Eraser: Because people ask! :) I love the Pentel Hi-Polymer white erasers
