The latest symbol of US Russian cooperation will roll out of its hangar this weekend.
The Russian Tu-144 passenger jet is being retrofitted for a flight research project that researchers hope will lead to the development of a new High Speed Civil Transport.
The roll-out on Sunday marks the beginning of a project that may someday take passengers halfway around the world in matter of hours.
They're putting the final touches on an old aircraft that may lead the way to a whole new future of aviation.
This Russian Tu-144 passenger jet is scheduled to roll out of its hangar on Sunday.
It is part of new joint research project between NASA and Russia's space agency.
The Tu-144 project is part of ongoing research into the development of a new supersonic High Speed Civil Transport.
The engineers working of the project envision carrying passengers around the world in half the time it takes current subsonic aircraft.
The plane is loaded with equipment for the scheduled six-month project.
It is the most significant joint aeronautics programme to date between the United States and Russia.
If all goes well, this old Tu-144 will be making new strides towards a brave, new world of air travel.
