Shotgun threaded for a choke, but you don’t know what kind? Rick Bolger discusses your options and washes it all down with the usual mystery beer at Twitchell Brook Farm, in this case a 1 1/2 year old IPA from Oregon’s Rogue Brewing. It’s definitely aged, but certainly didn’t fall apart. As for the unknown choke, MobilChoke is the most common top or end-threaded choke, while the Invector - Winchoke - AccuChoke (all the same fit) is the most common recessed choke. Other common chokes that add to the confusion are the aftermarket Briley choke (top) and double threaded Tru choke (recessed). Should be marked on the barrel or block, but some aren't, such as the Remington 12 gauge shown here -- although it's known to be a Remchoke. If you can't figure it out, you can spring for a replacement barrel, or just write off your threaded barrel and use it for blasting around the barnyard.
