Syrian Army Advances Into Kurdish Areas, Seizes Al Tabqah and Key Oilfields

The Syrian army has advanced deeper into Kurdish-held areas in northern Syria, ignoring U.S. calls to halt military action.

According to Syrian state media, government forces have taken control of the city of Al Tabqah, along with strategic dams and nearby oilfields along the Euphrates River.

Kurdish authorities have not confirmed these losses, and it remains unclear whether fighting is ongoing. The clashes come after Syrian troops gathered near villages and asked the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to withdraw to the eastern side of the river.

The SDF says it pulled back from some areas as a goodwill gesture, but accuses the Syrian army of advancing into towns and oilfields not covered by the agreement.

The United States has urged Syria to stop its offensive, while some Arab residents welcomed the army, hoping for stability after years of conflict. Territory control and oil resources remain at the heart of ongoing tensions.
