The Sarnat Neurologic Examination for Newborns

The Sarnat exam provides a method of quickly determining the presence and relative severity of neonatal encephalopathy. The exam is meant to be performed within 6 hours of birth as therapeutic cooling, the treatment for encephalopathic babies, is most effective when started early.
