2021 XC - CIF-ss FINALS 6 (Girls, D1 Championship)

This was certainly Newbury Park's day. Aside from the obvious dominance of the boys' team, the girls made a big statement of their own. For 2021, the D2 Champs move up to D1, the biggest, strongest schools. Dominated by Great Oak for the last decade. But, Newbury is ready to break that choke-hold. The heat generated by the boys' program has infected the girls' program and they are led by the division's premier talent, senior Sam(antha) McDonnell. #2 is a junior while #3 is a frosh. The only other seniors are in the #4 and #5 positions. The rest of the starting 7 are sophs. So, there may be life after Sam. We will go out on a limb and say that this is her best high school XC race. What an impressive performance from the leader of a 2019 championship team that was an after-thought in her frosh year. And to do it at Mt. SAC is amazing for a program from the flat-course school. They do develop strength and toughness there.
