Residents of Isiolo, belonging to ethnic minority groups and marginalized communities, had the opportunity to present their views to the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) regarding the Draft National Policy on Ethnic Minorities and Marginalised Communities in Kenya.
The meeting, held in Isiolo town, aimed to collect public opinions to ensure that the voices of these communities are heard and considered in the formulation of the national policy.
During the session, Isiolo residents highlighted several challenges affecting them, including lack of equality in employment, lack of land ownership documents, and continued exclusion and neglect in national and county development plans.
They called on the government to ensure that the new policy brings about real change that promotes inclusion and equality for all citizens.
For its part, the NGEC emphasized that all the views collected from the public will be carefully reviewed and incorporated into the final draft of the policy before it is submitted to the government for implementation.
The Commission reiterated that public participation remains a key pillar in promoting equality, justice, and inclusive development for all communities across the country.
