🎄 About the original “Last Christmas”
“Last Christmas” is a song by British duo Wham!, written and produced by George Michael and first released in 1984. Although it has become one of the most famous Christmas songs ever, the story it tells is not really about Christmas at all: it’s about a breakup and the pain of seeing that person again a year later.

The lyrics describe someone who “gave their heart” last Christmas and ended up hurt, now facing their ex again at a holiday get-together. On the surface the song sounds bright and catchy, but underneath there’s a lot of heartbreak, regret and self-awareness: the narrator knows they were fooled, knows they could be fooled again, and still struggles to let go.
