A dead neap tide that fished far better than expected on the River Tyne.
This early morning session at Walker Riverside started in low light on a small ebbing tide and carried on into the flood — and it turned into a busy, action-packed couple of hours.
Fishing a neap tide doesn’t always deliver, but on this session everything lined up. Plenty of fish were caught throughout, including the target species for the trip: codling.
I’m using a mix of fresh worm and frozen crab, both of which proved effective as the tide built and daylight increased.
This is a great short-session example of just how productive the Tyne can be on the right tide.
