Abstract: This is a brief introduction to the blossoming field of Geometric Group Theory, focusing on how we can use finite groups to try to understand infinite ones. Topics covered will include Sofic groups, Kaplansky’s DF conjecture, Amenability, and (time permitting) the famous (Hausdorff-)Banach-Tarski paradox.
