Presented by ABS-CBN News Documentaries and ABS-CBN News Digital’s NXT, Hiyas sa Escoda (Jewel in Escoda): From Science to Standoff in the West Philippine Sea is a 2025 documentary by journalist Izzy Lee that tells the story of marine scientists from the University of the Philippines whose mission was to conduct an ecological assessment and to study the marine life and corals in Escoda (also named Sabina) Shoal in the West Philippine Sea. The scientists were caught in the middle of a tense standoff between Coast Guards of the Philippines and China in the area. The documentary reveals the discoveries of the scientists and the tension between the two countries in the area located within the Philippines' Exclusive Economic Zone.
