Although the ceasefire between India and Pakistan prevails, Operation Sindoor is only paused. There is, therefore, a critical question that needs addressing: is another war between India and Pakistan inevitable? The answer hinges upon a set of further questions. Has Pakistan been deterred? Does it believe it has identified weaknesses in India’s air defences? Have the Pakistani army chief and the country’s top generals changed their thinking? And does Pakistan believe it can gain by taking on India yet again? Those are issues that have been recently addressed in an essay in Foreign Affairs. Today we shall put them to the author, a Visiting Professor at the Edmund Walsh School of Foreign Affairs at Georgetown University, Aqil Shah.
