Boulton Paul's Failed Tankbuster Trio: Boulton Paul P.99, P.100, & P.101

In this video, we take a look at the Boulton Paul P.99, P.100, and P.101, a trio of British ground attack aircraft from mid-World War II. We first talk about bizarre aircraft design decisions, from the inverse-wing Republic XF-91 Thunderceptor to the steel-canopied Hutter Hu 136, and how these designs failed, before moving to Boulton Paul's strange design decisions in a trio of planes made to serve as a new ground attacker. We talk about Britain's then-current ground attacker and tankbuster in the Hurricane Mk. IID, and how they wanted to replace it.

We talk about the P.99, its visual similarity to the SAAB J21, and its rather interesting design feature that ejected pilots downward into the ground. We move to the P.100, it being visually similar to the Curtiss XP-55 Ascender, and its similar feature that did the same thing. We finally move to the P.101, a departure from the other two that was still quite weird in its own right, being a fixed-gear biplane. We talk about the inevitable failure of all three designs, and how the P.101 design in particular revealed a spiteful side to Boulton Paul.
