Silambam Phoenix, a Bharatanatyam Institution based in Phoenix Arizona, celebrates 22 years in the valley. As part of the anniversary celebrations, Vimshathi Vaibhava, we pay homage to our guru, Padmashree Professor Sudharani Raghupathy with this three part series.
This year also happens to be the 75th year since Sudha aunty's first performance on August 15, 1947. So, in commemoration of this pivotal anniversary, we present 'Vajra Vaibhavam - Glimpses of the Unseen'. This three part series present Bharatantayam in the grand Thanjavur style.
This video features Part I of the series and brings to you Sudha aunty's introduction to the Thanjavur lineage and her interactions with the dancing greats of her time. It also features an exposition of a few items from Sri. Kittappa Pillai's choreography by his granddaughter Kumari Charumathi Chandrasekhar.
