A couple of the most important variables in selecting your saw blade are tooth pitch and teeth per inch or TPI.
TPI, tooth per inch, measures how many teeth or portions of teeth are found in an inch.
Tooth pitch represents the distance between two teeth.
It also indicates how many teeth will be in contact with the workpiece. Three teeth is the proper number of teeth that need to be in contact with the material at all times. Larger teeth may be too coarse which can cause the saw to whack and the blade to lose teeth. If finer teeth have too much contact with the workpiece, it can cause chips to amass and jostle the blade.
