Mattmark Glacier Trail to Britannia Hut 3030m | Glacier Crossing Hike in Saas Valley, Switzerland

The Mattmark Glacier Trail is a stunning high-alpine hike in the Saas Valley of Switzerland, connecting the Mattmark Dam (Mattmarksee) with the Britannia Hut (3030m) — one of the most scenic SAC huts in the Swiss Alps.

Starting at Mattmark reservoir (2197m), the route gradually ascends through an impressive mountain landscape, crossing three glaciers along the way — Allalin Glacier, Hohlaub Glacier, and Chessjen Glacier.
The trail can also be done in the opposite direction — starting from Felskinn (2991m), which is easily accessible by cable car from Saas Fee.

Although the path is well-marked and does not require technical glacier gear, it still leads through true alpine terrain, where weather and conditions can change quickly — so caution is essential.

Once at the Britannia Hut, a short path above the hut takes you to the small peak Klein Allalin (3070m), offering unforgettable panoramic views over the Saas Glacier world and the surrounding 4000m peaks.
