No Engine is perfect and this 2.4L I-forceMax engine in this toyota tacoma is no different there will be issues. However this engine is very new and we don't fully know what the downsides of this engine will be. But I made a list of 5 things as a mechanic that I think are high risk failure points or something that disapointed me.

first is the coolant control valve made of plastic I think this is going to be a sore spot for this engine. as the years go by there is most likely going to be failures around this component. similarly the use of polymer gears for the balancing shaft is questionable in my eyes. does not scream heavy duty.

next is the power output this Iforcemax is putting down. apparently one of the most powerful engine in the segment but with real world numbers it is one of the slowest engines in the segment with the non hybrid engine actually being faster to me makes zero sense.
