The conversational computer is one of the grand challenges of computer science. While that goal is still many decades away, there has been tremendous progress in speech recognition technology. This video gives an overview of the field, including the following: Advantages and applications of speech recognition; speech recognition technology, the state-of-the-art (signal processing, recognition search, speech modeling, languages modeling and understanding); demonstrations of speech technologies, what's possible today; and toward conversational computers, what might be possible in 10 years and beyond.
