Gordion was the capital city of ancient Phrygia. It was located about 70–80 km southwest of Ankara (capital of Turkey).
The most famous king of Phrygia was Midas, who reigned during the Middle Phrygian period at Gordion.
The city witnessed the incident that Alexander the Great cut the Gordion Knot in 333 BC.
