The war was brutal. Indian soldiers climbed near-vertical cliffs under enemy fire, fought in freezing temperatures and faced relentless artillery from fortified positions above. Despite overwhelming odds, they pressed forward determined, fearless and united by duty.

By 26 July, India had recaptured every inch of its land. Over 500 soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice and many more returned with lifelong injuries. But their bravery lit a fire across the nation. As India marks the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, let us pay tribute to those who gave their all. It's a reminder that freedom isn't free, it's guarded by those willing to fight for every inch.
