DCC stands for Digital Compact Cassette, a format developed by Philips in the early 1990's. The device show here is a Philips DCC730, a third-generation recorder for the DCC format, featuring the DDU turbo drive mechanism, making searching for tracks and spooling much faster than previous generation recorders.
To record on this recorder, simply press the "select/pause" button, and set the audio level to the desired value. On the display, one can read the actual level in dB, which is updated about once a second shown on the left, the headroom (how much dB until "redline" 0dB) is shown in the middle, and the selected level (by means of the rec level buttons) is shown on the right hand side of the display. An extra "over" warning will be displayed when surpassing the 0dB level. After the recording level is set, simply press "record".
The audio codec used by the recorder is called PASC, a form of MPEG1.
DCC sounds fabulous !
