Siberia, Russia (Soviet Union) - 1920s?
Supplies being delivered to Siberia by train and ship. Snow-covered train station in Siberia. Soldier in snowsuit; fur hat; stands by train track as locomotive / steam train slowly passes. Smoke & steam fill the air and cover the entire screen as the engine passes. Then freight cars roll by as soldiers watch. Mostly boxcars; also flatcar carrying bales of hay. Some of the cars have ice frozen in strange patterns; like a fake fur trim. CU train passing. After it has gone; men cross tracks.
Shot w/ another train standing at right; signal operator in BG; looks like snow blowing around but maybe just the poor quality of the film.
Crowd gathered waiting for boat to dock; everyone wears fur hats.
Various shots; many CUs of workers - Russian / Soviet soldiers - unloading crates; etc. Pan on dock area; very busy; cargo being carried this way & that. CU workers lark about with frozen pig carcasses; straddling the things & pretending to ride; etc. - rather disgusting but they seem to think it's a great laugh!
Followed by street scenes from Northern China (at 01:52:46).
Tracking shot driving down busy street; past shops w/ signs in Chinese; traffic is a mixture of pony carts; jinrikishas (rickshaws); & pedestrians. CU a few men looking at camera; then they walk on past. Man carrying strange looking object; looks like a lot of different sticks w/ beads on them sticking up from the end of wider pole.
