The Emergency Intervention Unit is a dedicated Network Rail team that works in conjunction with the British Transport Police to respond quickly to incidents on the network. There are several in the South East region and I was invited to spend the day with the Sussex team whom are based at East Croydon.
The EIU allows Network Rail staff to be driven and accompanied by BTP officers, to get to incidents using blue lights which helps to reduce response times and decreases the length of delays when responding to incidents.
