Last Train Home - Pat Metheny Group (Drum Cover)

This is my tribute to Lyle Mays (1953 - 2020) - Keyboardist for the Pat Metheny Group. Lyle was an amazing musician and songwriter.

The groove of the song is emulating a train ride home. This song paints so many pictures for me. It’s a very peaceful song and it leaves you the feeling of going home and being embraced by your loved ones. Home is where the love is for me ... there is nothing like being with my family and friends. Home is a place of belonging and acceptance. It’s the place where true peace and rest are found. My son, Matt loved listening to this artist and this song reminds me of him and one day being home with him again.

The drumming part is a single stroke roll played for 5:35 seconds with brushes. I played it a few times, but the first one seemed like the best to me. It’s not easy playing this song perfect, but I’m not looking for perfect but trying to paint the picture of how life is tension, release, hills, valleys, Joy, love and peace ...
