How does Roblox do church?

This week, we visit a few churches in Roblox, a platform with over 85 million daily users, and home to countless user-created "experiences"—including worship services.

This wasn’t my first foray into digital faith spaces. A couple years ago, I visited VR Church in the Metaverse and saw firsthand how virtual worship can open doors for people with disabilities, social anxiety, or even spiritual curiosity in places where traditional church isn’t accessible. It challenged my perspective.

So what about Roblox Church? While it looks different (and yes, some avatars were dressed like the Gingerbread Man, hot dogs, or anime characters), the heart was familiar: music, teaching, community, and a desire to connect with God. It’s easy to dismiss things like this as silly or shallow—but I left reminded that God meets people where they are.

Even in Roblox.
