‘Wycliffe’ is a British police procedural drama broadcast on ITV between 7 August 1993 and 5 July 1998. The series revolves around the work of Detective Superintendent Charles Wycliffe, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Devon and Cornwall Police in the Southwest of England, and his team, Detective Inspector Doug Kersey and Detective Inspector Lucy Lane. With his trademark determination and clinical accuracy, he investigates murder cases mainly in central and west Cornwall. Initially, the stories are in classic ‘whodunit’ style, often with quirky characters and plot elements. In later stories, the tone becomes more naturalistic and there is more emphasis on internal politics within the police. The setting in Cornwall is an important feature of the series, providing both picturesque landscapes and glimpses into the local way of life.
