The motorsports world received a thrilling update today as Shelby American introduced the 2025 Shelby GT350 during the prestigious Barrett-Jackson event in Scottsdale, Arizona. This new release marks a historic moment, arriving nearly 60 years after Carroll Shelby first presented the original Shelby GT350 on January 27, 1965. With up to 810 horsepower, this iteration is the most powerful Shelby GT350 ever built, promising both street and track-ready options to suit a variety of performance enthusiasts.
Shelby American has developed two versions of the GT350: a street-focused model and the track-oriented GT350R. The GT350 street model boasts a highly tuned 5.0-liter V8 engine, available in both naturally aspirated (480 horsepower) and supercharged (810 horsepower) variants. Customers can choose between a manual or automatic transmission, providing flexibility for different driving preferences. With an affordable starting price of $109,999 for the supercharged variant, including the cost of the base vehicle, Shelby has made high performance accessible to a wider audience.
“The Shelby GT350 and GT350R are back and better than ever for 2025,” stated Gary Patterson, President of Shelby American. “These vehicles embody Carroll Shelby’s vision of creating exhilarating cars that excel on both the street and the track. Each model offers its unique personality, with the GT350 delivering thrilling sports car performance and the GT350R geared toward the track-focused enthusiast.”
The 2025 GT350 includes a host of enhancements to improve performance and comfort. Shelby American refined the suspension for a smoother ride, opened up the exhaust system for a richer sound, and optimized the aerodynamics to improve overall efficiency. According to Vince LaViolette, Vice President of Operations and Senior Designer at Shelby American, “The GT350 was designed to offer exceptional performance without sacrificing everyday comfort. The styling enhancements are purposeful, emphasizing function while maintaining a striking appearance.”
For track enthusiasts, the Shelby GT350R takes things to another level. With over 830 horsepower, this model comes exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. Shelby will produce only 36 units of the GT350R, all finished in white with optional painted stripes and graphics packages inspired by Shelby’s racing heritage. Buyers can choose between gold, silver, or black accents representing the historic race package, or blue and white for a nod to classic Shelby designs.
The GT350R is built with advanced materials and technology to deliver a competitive edge on the track. Highlights include a carbon fiber interior tub, optional carbon fiber racing seats, an integrated roll cage, and a high-speed aerodynamic package developed in collaboration with Turn Key Automotive/Motorsports. The suspension system features adjustable JRI race struts and shocks, while ProSystems Alcon racing brakes ensure precise stopping power. Shelby American has yet to announce the price for the GT350R, but its exclusive production and advanced components make it a standout offering.
Turn Key Automotive/Motorsports has played a key role in developing the GT350R and is also assisting with Shelby American’s plans for a Trans Am race car. Turn Key’s expertise in performance engineering and niche production makes it an ideal partner for Shelby’s return to competitive racing. The collaboration will culminate in a Trans Am-spec Shelby race car, with plans to debut in the 2026 season. Jack Rinke, a Turn Key engineer who worked on the GT350R, will compete in the series, continuing Shelby’s legacy in motorsports.
Aaron Shelby, grandson of Carroll Shelby, expressed his excitement about the company’s return to racing. “Shelby American has a rich history in motorsports, and we are thrilled to build on that legacy with a car designed to compete and win in the Trans Am series,” he said.
Production of the 2025 Shelby GT350 will begin in the second quarter of the year. A total of 562 units, mirroring the production numbers from 1965, will be built. These will be available through Shelby-selected Ford dealerships in the United States and through international Shelby modification shops. Additionally, the 36 limited-edition GT350R models will be sold directly by Shelby American.
With its blend of heritage and cutting-edge performance, the 2025 Shelby GT350 series sets a new standard for American sports cars, ensuring the legacy of Carroll Shelby continues to inspire future generations of driving enthusiasts.
