Offshore Kayak Fishing - Flipped in a Storm

I went kayak fishing offshore by myself in South Florida 06/19/2019. When I arrived there was a storm coming thru. I waited for it to pass, monitoring my weather radar app. I waited until there was no weather on the radar and launched around 8:30am. All was fine. Then as I was about a mile offshore the sky turned black to the south. I did not want to be caught in it by myself in a kayak so I hustled back to shore. I almost made it.. A large wave hit me as I launched and knocked my flag down into the water. I didn't realize it until I was out to sea. The Sargasm was soo thick and with my flag down in the water, it impaired my rudder control as I was coming in. I got hit by a big breaking wave broadside, unable to turn into it. Ruined my Garmin and lost my gaf. I was never was so happy to reach dry land. I no longer use that style of flag mount. Its a bad design for this type of fishing.
