You never know what you'll come across when you spend an afternoon railfanning, and we experienced a prime example of that on November 6, 2020. The Music City Star is a 32-mile commuter rail service in metro Nashville, Tennessee, so it was quite the pleasant surprise when we found a Music City Star locomotive (NRTX 121 to be specific) on a CSX mixed freight train more than 100 miles away (as the crow flies) in Evansville, Indiana.
Our first clip joins the train in progress as it backs into Howell Yard with a bunch of flatcars hauling vehicle frames. Our second clip (at 1:46) captures the entire 117-car train heading north out of town (and even further away from Nashville), with CSX 3219 leading and CSX 798 serving as a DPU pusher at the end. Clip #1 was recorded at the southeast corner of Ohio Street and Ray Becker Parkway. Clip #2 was recorded at Allens Lane.
