If you're still reading I wanted to add that the multiple scenes about Blue having empathy, and the moment where she cries the single dinosaur tear, seem to suggest that part of what makes the dinosaurs worthy of saving is that they engage with humans on our own terms.

The implication being that an average dumb animal, or one with natural predator instincts, is Other and thus less worthy of saving. And that the right to live is conditional. Blue shouldn't need to be Smarter Than Your Average Dinosaur for people to feel badly for her when she is suffering.
