There's something to be said for blind, childlike zeal. In the mid 1980's as an aspiring Christian rock band, a group of guys in their mid teens and early twenties got together on weekends to jam in the warehouse of a smalltown Texas carpet store. Friday night youth group gigs at surrounding churches eventually led to a hand full of original songs.

The band Apocalyps (missing "e" intentional) paid $200 at a charity auction for a few hours of studio time and emerged with a 7" single.

In hindsight, the lyrics were incredibly cringey. So much so, as an adult, I blush when I admit to having written them. But, at the time, my desire to "reach souls" far outweighed any lyrical gifts I may or may not have possessed. Playing in that band kept us out of trouble, and we had an absolute blast together, making noise, praising God, and taking pride in what we were creating.

Today, Suno AI did things with this song that, even as adults, few of the players could possibly match - save, perhaps, the drummer and guitarist who both still regularly play in their own bands and remain quite accomplished at their craft.

This was a fun, modern trek back to a more innocent time when hearts were sincere and intentions were pure.
