It's time to breathe new life into my vintage Radio Shack TRS-80 Color Computer 3! In this video, I upgrade the stock Motorola 6809E CPU with a powerful Hitachi 63B09E processor — offering better performance and enhanced instruction support. Then I perform a full capacitor recap on the CoCo 3 motherboard to help future-proof this classic 8-bit machine.
For those curious about how I safely removed the original 6809E CPU: I used plenty of flux, a Hakko FR-301 desoldering gun, and took my time to preserve the original chip for future use. No leg cutting here!
Join me in celebrating OctTandy (or SepTandy for the early birds) and keeping retro computing alive!
