2024 Honda Accord Hybrid 2.0 - Brake Fluid Flush Service

In today's video, we will be performing a brake fluid flush service on this late-model Honda hybrid vehicle. The service interval for these Honda vehicles to replace brake fluid is every 3 years/60000 Kilometers (37500 Miles) whichever comes first. In this video I will be doing a gravity bleed instead of the conventional 2-man bleed method or using other methods such as vacuum/pressure bleeding as most people watching my videos will be do-it-yourselfers (DIYs) with minimal tools/equipment. Typically, I can do gravity bleeding of the brake fluid without many issues on most vehicles depending if I am doing a service or if I am actually trying to purge of all of the air in the system. This video is a somewhat of a step-by-step tutorial so I hope it will help some people who are in need and know on what to do in order to perform this service successfully without much trouble. Enjoy!

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere over time, lowering its boiling point. Brake fluid needs to have a high boiling point to withstand the heat transferred from kinetic energy to thermal energy. Neglecting to change the brake fluid at regular intervals will cause a buildup of moisture, leading to corrosion in the brake system. This will reduce braking capability over time. If the brake fluid reaches a low enough boiling point, it will boil and produce gas, leading to air buildup and eventually a spongy/soft brake pedal, ultimately causing brake failure.

One thing I wanted to mention is somewhere in the beginning of this video I may have not explained the diagonally split brake system thoroughly enough as I was trying to make it very brief. This type of system is used for in case if one of the brake circuits stop working you will still have at least two wheels (one in the front and one in the rear) to stop the vehicle in case anything were to happen and if one of the circuits fails (a fail-safe or limp home mode type system). In this case the vehicle will still be able to come to a complete stop, but will take a lot longer compared to a fully functional braking system. The vehicle will still be stable as it will not pull on to one side when braking, hence why they have the circuits tied up diagonally. This is to evenly distribute the braking power so the vehicle does not pull excessively during braking in this emergency situation.
