Hi everyone, I'm Evangeline right here at etrailer. Today, we're gonna be reviewing the Thule ReVert 4-Bike Vertical Hanging Rack. This is gonna be an intriguing rack where instead of other platform racks which go further out past your vehicle, the direction this one goes is up. And that does save a little bit of space behind your car, but more importantly, with the ReVert rack, it has some extra cool features in there like a hydraulic strut that allows you to very easily tilt the bike rack away. And this makes it a lot easier to load and unload all of your different bikes. So we're gonna talk about those different features, explain why this might be a good fit, why this might not be a good fit, and I'll also show you how to get your bikes loaded up.
Showing off how I load the bike is actually been my favorite thing to show off today because it's pretty easy. So I have a light road bike here and all I need to do is bring it up where rear wheel on the ground, front wheel up top 'cause then I can just roll that wheel up and into the tray and just like that the bike is sitting up and ready for me to strap things down. This is gonna be the ReVert 4, which means you can carry it up to four bikes. You can also upgrade to the ReVert 6 if you do want to carry it up to six bikes. I do recommend loading it from left towards the right though.
And as you can see we have a mix of mountain bikes as well as a road bike on the far right. You secure your bike with rubber straps for the front wheel, securing it to the cradle, and then a rubber strap in the second one. And along with electric bikes, this will fit most of your standard mountain bikes and some road bikes. Now what it won't fit though are bikes that do have fenders just because of where the tires sit. This will also fit your fat tire bikes with tires wider than three inches, as well as your small kids bikes.
Now for those who do need separate fat bike adapters or children's bike adapter, which allows you to carry 20, up to 24 inch wide tires, this is a very easy part to pick up here at each trailer, and attach to those loops for those situations. If you've seen my review video for the six bike version of this bike rack, you've probably heard how much I love that version, especially since there's so few actual good options for carrying up to six bikes with your vehicle. Now in the four bike platform or hanging rack bike rack category though, there's a lot of competition. Pretty much every brand has a four bike bike rack. Does this still hold up against those other options It does depend on your priorities.
So, a quick summary of our video so far is we've seen how easy this is to tilt back, how easy it is to load bikes up. Awesome when you do have to carry up to four bikes. On the other side though, what it doesn't do as well as some of the other contenders, especially platform racks, is gonna be that movement behind your vehicle. So to show you what I mean, we're gonna take it out on a test course. And real quick before you hit the road, always make sure that all of your straps are secured, and that your hitch is tightened down with that knob. And I always recommend locking that down and also make sure that your safety pin is in your base and secured in that tab. If you've double checked all three things, let's go for a ride. All right, driving around our test course, we have our speed bumps and you're gonna see some sway of the bike rack. Now this is probably the most sway we're going to see, especially when we go up and down on those speed bumps because you'll see the bike rack go up and down as well. The whole rack is moving up and down, but the bikes are very sturdy on there. When we do some quick turns, you'll see how the bikes sway with the car. Even our U-turn here, everything looks really good. I'm pretty impressed with just how secure those straps and those cradles make it for all the bikes on the rack. Now going through the gravel area, we'll also see a good amount, but not as much movement as we did when we had it on the speed bumps. The thing with the gravel is that this rack is also rated for slight off-road use. But that only means like private roads, service roads, things like that. So for our drive today, I'm pretty impressed with the performance of this bike rack. Yes, there is more movement compared to some more sturdy platform racks, but it's pretty on par to the point that I'm pretty secure with my bikes on
