Race 1 of the U.S. Multihull Championships for the Hobie Alter Cup 2025 brought a brand-new challenge — the Formula Wave class.

It was a day of discovery, frustration, and learning. The conditions were shifty, the waves unpredictable, and the Formula Wave demanded a totally different feel compared to the Hobie 16 or Tornado. Despite a rough start and a few setup mistakes, it was an invaluable first taste of this fast, tactical single-handed catamaran.
