As Papua New Guineans paid their last respects to a great man, a reformist and trailblazing economist, we searched through our archives and found old footage of Sir Mekere when he was elected Prime Minister.
Sir Mek was the first finance Secretary, the first economic graduate and in his first term as a member of parliament, he shot to the top job of PM at a time when the country was in economic turmoil.
