Lado Payam Announces Public Allocation of 22,000 Plots in Nyamini to Address Urban Housing Demand
Samir Bol | Juba, South Sudan , May29,2025 – In a major step toward addressing the growing housing needs in and around the capital, Lado Payam of Juba County, Central Equatoria State, announced on Tuesday the public allocation of 22,000 surveyed plots in Nyamini village, located approximately 15 miles from Juba.
The plots—designated for residential, commercial, and institutional use—are part of a large-scale land initiative led by local authorities and community leaders to provide organized urban settlement opportunities for South Sudanese citizens.
Allamin Sebit Tombe, Chairperson of the Illa Kare and Ku’da Lo’dimi Assocation , announced the commencement of the allocation process. “We have 22,000 tokens and 91,000 investment plots available, along with designated spaces for schools, hospitals, churches, and two cemeteries,” Tombe told journalists during the launch event.
He emphasized that all plots have been properly surveyed and roads have already been opened to improve accessibility and infrastructure.
“There is a large number of South Sudanese living in Juba who lack permanent places to stay with their families,” Tombe said. “That’s why we—youth, traditional chiefs, and educated leaders from Illa Kare and Ku’da Lo’dimi—have joined together to develop Nyamini as a city for all South Sudanese.”
Justin Lado Wani, Executive Chief of Jebel Lado, praised the progress made by the communities involved:
“We don’t have much to add except to commend the development community. Tokens have been distributed, and those holding them will receive their plots. I want to reassure everyone—this land belongs to you, and our vision is to build a city here.”
Martin Patia, Youth Leader of Jebel Payam, echoed the sentiment:
“Allocation should continue. Anyone who has a token must come and receive their land. This is a milestone for our youth and future generations.”
Viola Poni Barnaba, Women’s Representative from Illa Kare in Lado Payam, expressed strong support for the initiative.
“The clearing of plots and the opening of roads are underway. We urge all those who received tokens to come forward and claim their land,” she said.
This initiative represents a bold move by Lado Payam and the local community to expand urban development in a transparent, inclusive, and well-organized manner. Authorities hope it will alleviate pressure on housing in Juba and set a precedent for future planned settlements across South Sudan.
