The Air Tractor AT-400 is a family of agricultural aircraft that first flew in the United States in September 1979. Type certification was awarded in April 1980. Of low-wing monoplane taildragger configuration, they carry a chemical hopper between the engine firewall and the cockpit.
With its PT-6 turbine engine, the 402B offers power and superb handling characteristics that make it a joy to fly. Quick turn times, superior visibility, fast ferry speeds, ultra-quiet engine, short take-off distances, wide spray patterns, and decreased fuel costs have made the type a stand-out performer in agricultural-aviation.
The aircraft's hopper volume is 1500 litres, and it can carry
a load of just under 2,400 kgs.
This aircraft is seen here at a Wings Over Wairarapa Airshow (now 'Air Festival') which has been held at Hood Aerodrome in Masterton (New Zealand) every two years, for over two decades.
