We stayed in a country house in December once, high up on the North York moors. In the main hallway there was a grand stone fireplace carved with Celtic designs just like this, covered in so many lights. The cold wind whipped round the house outside and the heat from the log fire and the smell of woodsmoke was the most comforting thing.
Hoping this memory brings you comfort and warmth when it's cold outside too.
